Jeannie Moore said… I think you mean everyday for 6 weeks correct? The big side effect with Xeloda is what we call hand and foot syndrome. Lotion is the key. I will pop some udder cream samples in the mail to you today. Fatigue is another side effect from radiation. Believe it or now, walking is the best thing (exercise) to combat fatigue. If he has diarrhea, manage that aggressively with immodium/lomotil and eat white rice, white toast with peanut butter, and push the fluids so he doesnt' get dehyrdrated.
Stats show us less than 4 nodes is good - but again, everyone is an individual so we don't focus on stats. Most stage 3ers do very well.
He hasn't had surgery yet has he?

Jeannie Moore said… Welcome Doneen, glad you are here all the way from AK! We have many caregivers here. He is so young - any family history? Has he had surgery? Port in? Sorry for all the questions. It may be easier to talk on phone - i'm on helpline today 877-422-2030 (9:30-4:30 EST).
My mom is a 13 year stage 3 survivor. Most stage 3ers do fine. We will help you get through the treatment etc. Your kids need to know to be screened no later than 10 years prior to his dx - earlier if they experience any change of bowels/blood etc.
let us know how we can help by posting on our discussion forum or calling our helpline.

Nancy Butterfield said… Welcome Doneen,
We're glad you are here. I'm so sorry you family is going through this, but we are here to help. We have many caregivers here, this is a great group for support and knowledge. Ask any questions you have on the message board.
My mom is an 18 year stage III survivor, she is 84 and is doing great! Most people do well. We can match you or your husband with a buddy that has been through what he is going through to give him a call. Did he have surgery already or is he doing chemo/radiation? When does he get the results of his staging?
We have a lot of information in our Newly Diagnosed tab above as well as a chat on management of side effects of chemo in our Archived Chat tab above. Here is another website for chemo side effects and describes the drugs:
You can call our help line for questions you have or if you want us to match you with a buddy. Let us know how we can help.
