My cancer had spread to the omentum. I had surgery on May 28th 2010. At that time they removed part of the omentum along with about 9 inches of the ascending colon and about 9 inches of the small intestines. Thirty four lymph nodes were also removed and twenty five of those were cancerous. I was given six to nine months to live at that time.

Good news from my Oncologist

My Oncologist is very pleased with my progress and tolerance of the chemo. He says he has never had a patient do this well. I believe it is a direct result of the integrative approach being used combining my chemo with biological medicine therapy.

Hang in there, I'm sure there will be a lot of options for you. Are you being treated locally, or maybe at Wake Forest? My surgeries and scans are at Duke, and my chemo was here in Greensboro. I was referred to Duke for the original surgery given the tumor location and the specialty of the guy at Duke. That was 8 years ago, but they just found a local recurrence (rectal area), so I'm waiting for appointments with surgeon and radiologist to work on a plan of action.

I'll be in touch after I hear from you, hopefully sometime tomorrow or Friday.

Take care,
Gordon Cole

Jeanne,

I am a stage 4 colon cancer patient with mets to my live and lung. I am doing basically the same chemo routine you are. Right now I am just doing Erbitux and Irenotecan(?spelling), but will start back in Nov. to 5-Fu and Ozaliplatin. I was able after some heavy rounds of that to get my liver mets to not show up last May. I had a PET scan in May and nothing lit up also, since then I have had a CT scan that showed liver mets were back, largest 9 mm and Lung mets still there, largest 6 mm. We are going to work on knocking the liver mets at least back down and we believe that we can. It will be tough, but I think I am tougher. lol What are the alterntive therapies that you are trying? I would love to know. I am so glad to hear you are doing okay and have made some progress. We all need to keep fighting and believe that we can beat this. I have a strong faith in God and that helps me so much also. God bless, Kathy Wootten

Thanks for the welcome,  I live in an area that does not have a cancer support group and the nearest one is over an hour away. I believe in order to beat this disease you need to talk about it with people who understand what you are going through. I have wonderful family and friends but they can only understand some of it. I have plans to start a local cancer support group now that my chemo txs are done. I have my next scan in Dec and am hoping I am still NED.
