About Me:

I am a fifty nine year old grandmother originally from Fairbanks, Alaska-- moved to Florida ten years ago and was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in September of this year. I am currently finishing the six weeks of radiation/chemo this week and still dealing with alot of things that I don't know. Can my colostomy be reversed, etc? Facing cancer has been the most powerful thing I have ever encountered in my life, and it DOES affect everyone in the family. I struggle with depression, uncontrollable crying, feelings of guilt, etc. I was so grateful to find this community especially since I felt so little help and support was out there initially. Please feel free to friend request me/message me--I need all the friends out there I can get who are going through what I'm going through.

Hi Judy, welcome to this wonderful site. I have read your profile and can see myself in it. Getting used to the colostomy was rough, because my stoma was very small and inverted. But I had a wonderful man at one of the supply companies that worked with me and sent me free samples of the various bags and I eventually found one that worked great. I would be more than happy to talk to you about any issues you might have, we all need someone who has been through it to help guide us. I had my reversal done 8 months after my surgery. I had to have 6 months of chemo first. I am a school teacher and have continued to work these last two years, the students have been awesome and they keep me young. A great sense of humor and trying to remain positive has gotten me through these last few years. I am still fighting this awful disease and plan on beating it. Anyway call if you want to talk. My number is 517-626-7445. Take care of yourself. Peg

Hi Judy, welcome to this site. You will find a lot of help here. I didn't have a colostomy, but there is a subgroup that can help. As to the depression, please be sure to talk to your doctor about it. There are meds that can help. Also, look into a local support group like the wellness community. There is one in southwest florida in sarasota http://www.thewellnesscommunity.org/corporate/facilities.php
add me as a friend and let me know how to help. karen

Hi Judy!!!!!!
I am not familiar with much re: stoma's-fortunately that is one thing my daughter is not dealing with. I am sure there are lots of members out there that have knowledge of this & hopefully your doctor is "all over this" finding out the cause & taking care of it.
Keep me posted- post your comments on my page & I'll get right back to you.
Blessings!

Hi Judy, I am also a grandmother. If I knew they would be so much fun I would have had them first :-) I am a nine year survivor this month. Faith, family, and a good sense of humor is what got me through. May you experience many blessings in the New Year!
God bless, Tina

No grandchildren yet, Judy. Just have a daughter that is 21 (will be on January 20) and one 16. We had our children relatively late in life due to schooling (both my wife and I have M.S. degrees). Cheers. -Bill

Thank you for adding me as your friend. I will be your friend so let me know what I can do for you. Cancer is really tough but you need to laugh at something. When things are bad for me I like to watch comedy. Laughter can be theraputic and healing.
