About Me:
I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in January 2007. I had six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy. I received 5FU, Oxaliplatin, and Leucovorin via a pump I wore 24/7 for those 6 weeks. I was tired during that time, but I did not miss any days at work; I was a teacher. In May 2007 I had surgery to remove the tumor. At the end of June that year I started chemo again in a clinical trial; receiving the original drugs and Avastin. After my fifth dose of Avastin I experienced a serious reaction called
Reversible Posterior Leukoenphalophy Syndrome. I was hopsitalized and remember very little of that time, but it was life-threatening and left me with some memory and vision problems, which did improve over time. I could not continue taking the Avastin, but I did finish three more rounds of the other three drugs, ending my treatment in December 2007. Since then I have had regular visits with my oncologist and radiologist. I have had six month follow up scans and MRIs and so far things look good. I do have continuing numbness and balance problems due to the Oxaliplatin, but I am grateful to be alive. My husband and four grown children, extended family, and friends have been a constant source of support. I have been looking for a support group to share some of my feelings and fears with, and am vey happy to have found CRC.

Thanks for your message, Julie.  I look at CRC a couple of times a week.  I have about 6,000 visitors to my web page and am amazed about that.  I hear from some and they tell me some of my ideas are helpful.  All of our weather is a little strange this year.  Have a good Easter.

Hi, Julie... that's very nice of you and very much appreciated. So many dedicated people are devoting enormous energies trying to solve the puzzle and every new incremental development is progress. Meantime it's up to us to keep the energies of hope and encouragement to everyone confronted with this nasty journey. Thanks again...! Hugh

Hi Julie Kay.....just got word this am.....thought you'd like to know:

>>Hi Jeannie, I joined this site tonight to look for someone to let everyone know that Kelley Pennycook has sadly passed away on Nov 6th.

I have read her comments both to and from her friends on this site and they all seem very close and supportive of each other.
I thought that you might be able to let everyone know (if they don't already)

Hi, Julie. I was diagnosed in December 2007 (I need to expound more in my profile). I had no idea what was wrong and basically the tumor shut down my colon so I had to have surgery within two days of being admitted to the hospital. I did 10 cycles of Folfox and then surgery to reverse my colostomy and my local surgeon said I was "cured." Not quite. About six weeks later (in August 2008) I started experiencing severe pain and bloating and two doctors said I had excessive gas. Finally after a CT in September they concluded that the adenocarcinoma was back but they didn't know exactly where. It turns out it metastasized to my liver and ovaries. My local surgeon referred me to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and I had a salpingo-oophorectomy in October 2008. I then had 8 more cycles of Folfiri chemo and now I'm scheduled to have a liver resection on March 17. I also still have side effects from the Oxaliplatin, although I've been off of it since last May. I'm sorry you're having those problems but I'm glad you're cancer-free. I hope to be able to say that soon!
