5FU and curcumin

I was recently advised by my oncologist that adding curcumin (from turmeric) to my foods may aid in bringing my CEA count down (in coordination with my 5FU treatment). Has anyone heard of and/or done this and have feedback? Thanks!!

Hey Kendell

Funny story... last week, after a break from riding, I went for a ride on our local bike path... also about 3.6 miles. My legs were killing me.. and I certainly wasn't happy about it. As I put the bike on the rack to go home... I noticed the tires seemed soft... turns out they only at about 20 instead of the normal 60 to 70 pounds of pressure. Guess there are still some things I can't blame on cancer.

Hello Kendall, I am on Ambien CR, most sleep aids are very addictive. I would suggest starting with one that is not addictive first. I also take a benadryl to help make me tired, most nights a warm bath helps too. Avastin should never be given alone to my understanding. So you are NED? congratulations!

Will look for an update later today Kendall - hope you come up with a plan - possibly even avastin alone??? You surely do need a break from xeloda. Glad you came to chat last night.

Hi Kendall, it's been a rough few weeks, and coming home from the hospital and jumping right into taking care of my TPN. I wonder if the doc will consider putting me on maintenance chemo; he had discussed it as a possibility after I finished chemo in Sept 09.
I learned a while ago from the chemo nurses that any lotion with dimethicone as an ingredient, especially closer to the beginning of the ingredients, is very soothing and healing for cracked dry skin. Shea butter is also awesome. They don't want to put me on avastin because of the chance of bowel perforations. If Folfiri isn't as effective this time, my doc said he'd take me off the 5FU and we'd use irinotecan with vectibix or erbitux. We'll see how things go. One day at a time!
Looking forward to hearing about your new regimen!

Hi Kendall,
Sorry to hear about your hands and feet, I had the same problem with oxi. the time off may be a good thing. Let us know how it goes

So sorry Kendall - i hope it's manageable - the pain from the hand and foot - is it just really hard to walk? Maybe taking a break is a good idea and just stay on avastin alone vs. lowering the dose if it's that bad.

Did they offer going back on the 5fu as continious infusion?

jeannie

When was your last cea done? Is it climbing, stable or shrinking? When in doubt after talking to your doc, can't hurt to get another opinion........maybe we're not there yet, but I'm curious as to what they are presenting as options.
