Thanks for the welcome Nancy!  I am excited to get more involved.  After speaking with you, I had an unfortunate event and am just now getting back on my feet.  I had an acute small bowel obstruction that required surgery.  That was probably even less fun than all of the previous adventures but I'm doing much better.  I am so excited though b/c I saw that not all of the speakers were secured for the conference and was able to suggest my surgeon.  I was seeing her every day on rounds at the time so it got all set up and she'll be speaking on the panel.  I have applied for assistance with my flight so we'll see what happens but I hope to make it there and get the chance to meet you as well!  Hope you are doing well and I appreciate all of your help!

Hi Nancy, Val here, I have been so busy working 2 jobs and Charlie (a full time job in itself..lol) I haven't checked my mail. Thank you for getting back to me and I am excited to be a CCA volunteer.. been quite a week... Charlie was getting very depressed about the fact that neither mayor, city or county, had gotten back to him about the proclamation for March 2 other than to say they signed it and he could pick it up next week...That didn't satisfy; he wants to accepted it in front of the media so the word will get out. I found out that one of our county commissioners who is a real go-getter and has a networking coffee club on Thursday mornings.I went to work and I sent Charlie out the door to talk to them. She was very kind and listened to him and his story and his issues getting heard. We are not sure if it was her interceding, but Charlie will now be presented with the proclamation in the Chambers  proclaiming March 2 as National Dress In Blue Day in Orange County and they will get the media for the event... as we are rookies at this, I can't tell you how satisfying it is to know the word will get out. Boy, it was much tougher than anticipated, next year we will hopefully use our connections from this year to work with. Charlie is having a much easier recovery this time than the last 2 operations, and we are grateful...thank you so very much for all your support...

Cured of cancer, sure, but I still have two kids (or, I should say that my wife, being a single mom, has THREE boys). And as we all know, there is NO cure for that.

Victoria asked if I were still in remission after (lemme get out my calculator .... ) three and a half years. I'd not go so far as to claim remission since I still have two kids. I don't have cancer any longer, though. Does THAT count? I'm still feeble minded (that is an inherited condition -- you get it from your children).
