I am new to this as my son was diagnosed with Stage 4 with mets to the liver in February of 2010. As I search for information and people who have been there and understand, I just found Tom's information. I was so sorry to get to the end of the story and find he had recently passed away. Thanks to him for sharing and offering his thoughts and time. If it is true that "knowledge is power", I am getting more power with each little bit of information I can find. There is nothing like real people. Thank you Tom! I am sorry you are no longer able to be with us and also thankful that you do not hurt any longer. I send long distance love and concern to the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. It get's me so upset. I was diagnosed in February 2010. I have Stage IV rectal cancer that has spread to my liver and lung. I currently get 5 different chemos every other monday and go home with chemo hooked up to me in my port for 46 hours. So it's 3 days straight of chemo. I get so sick. I felt like I had hope and that I could beat this but seeing that Tom has passed away I feel like now when you have Stage IV it's only a matter of time. Does anyone ever wonder why we are doing chemo if we are terminal. My doctor says someone in my situation the average life span is 18 months. So why am I going through this horrible chemo if there is no cure? I've been really depressed as I was an active person and worked on Wall Street all my life and now I am home all the time and sick. Seeing people pass away on this website gets me so down. Everyone says fight back and beat the battle but I believe you can't win this battle. I'm so scared. I am so saddened by Tom's passing as he seemed like such a fighter it makes you give up hope. TOM REST IN PEACE THERE IS NO MORE SUFFERING FOR YOU AS THIS DISEASE IS BRUTAL. RIP - Dave

Dear Family,
I pray that God will strengthen you all during this time. I lost my mother to colon cancer on August 11, 2008 and I am still dealing with the pain. You learn to go on, but that piece of your heart is missing. I honestly pray that God will give you peace. May God Bless you all.

Dear Family-
The news of Tom's death made me very sad. I think often of his wife and children. I, too, lost my husband to colon cancer on April 28, 2009. We have two small children (7 months & 6 years at the time). This is a tragic, terrible thing. My thoughts and prayers are with the family now. It will be a long and bumpy ride through the grief/mourning process.
Sending much love and hugs through cyberspace,
Carol Buhler
